The Rule and the Exception

posted 1 year ago

Unfortunately, where a child is born directly effects his success, specifically eduation.

according to teachforamerica.com…

  • By the time they reach fourth grade, children living in low-income communities are already two to three grades behind their higher-income peers.
  • Just half of students in low-income communities will graduate high school by age 18. Those who do graduate will perform on average at an eighth-grade level.
  • Overall, only 1 in 10 students growing up in poverty will graduate from college.

Corps members’ main goal is to eliminate the link between social class and education.

TFA History:

Wendy Copp, attending Princeton University as a senior, constructed the idea for her non-profit organization as an undergraduate project. She based her creation on the inspiring people around her that were committed to making a difference in the world. After raising two and a half million dollars of funding, she recruited 500 men and women to teach all over America. TFA is now composed of over 28,000 members who provide quality education to low-income communities.
